My Grief Journey
In 2011, we experienced the death of our 20-year-old son, Grant. With a single phone call, our lives were turned upside down, and a journey began—one of learning how to carry and weave the threads of profound loss into our lives.
I graduated from Florida State University and my early career was in the travel industry. I loved my work with Delta Airlines and later with a travel agency in Atlanta. Because I have always loved to travel, both of these roles gave me opportunities to explore the world.
After Grant died, I was surprised by how travel once again became an important part of my life. I traveled to Africa to visit a boys’ home started by some of Grant’s friends. I traveled to Costa Rica, where I unexpectedly met another bereaved mother. I traveled to Idaho for a five-day rafting trip that began in “Grants Pass,” where I slept under the stars for the first time in my life.
